For street photography, you often have to balance how far you are willing to push things to get the photo you have in mind.
My goal is always to remain unnoticed as much as possible. If the person you are trying to photograph discovers you, don’t try to hide it. Own up to the fact. Most often, exchanging a few sentences will explain what you were doing.
For the “photo of the day,” I spotted the gentleman enjoying his breakfast but walked by because I didn’t want to disturb him, nor did I want him to notice me capturing this moment.
After quickly considering it, I returned to the scene, as I did not want to miss this shot. When I returned, he finished his breakfast and looked to the side. I snapped one quick frame. I am thrilled with the result, as it worked out and followed the rules of my playbook.
