Snow Shoeing as a Christmas Present

What a wonderful Christmas present it was from Emma and Simon: A snow-shoeing trip to Cypress Mountain, and lunch was even included.

About a 30-minute drive from the city of Vancouver you find the Hollyburn Nordic area at Cypress Mountain and one of the activities offered is snow-shoeing.

It was not our first-time snow-shoeing. We had tried it years ago at Silver Star Mountain but clearly, it had been a while.

We picked up our rentals and headed off on an easy traverse before stopping for lunch. Three vegetarian chilis and a veggie burger for me. There was a great atmosphere at the lodge and it reminded us of hundreds of lunch stops skiing back at Silver Star.

After lunch, we braved an uphill black trail but it was not too bad and the reward at the top was a cup of coffee we brought along in a thermos.

The snow-shoes give incredibly good traction and for the most part, we all did really well and really enjoyed the experience. The fresh air, the exercise, the great feeling afterward, and being together was awesome.

I also shot a few frames on film with my Nikon FM3a and may add them to this post after I get the film developed.
